Smarteducationlab is a technology start-up established in December 2017 as a research spin-off of CETMA - European Research Centre of Technologies, Design and Materials - Brindisi, Italy (www.cetma.it).

CETMA is a public-private research organization that has been operating for over 30 years in the field of technological research, focusing on advanced materials, information technologies, and product development.

SmartEducationLab was founded to capitalize on the research results of the project “Edoc@Work 3.0”, funded under the MIUR PON Smart Cities and Communities and Social Innovation Programme. The project aimed to promote the adoption of digital technologies for “Education 3.0” across schools of all levels, leveraging senior researchers with proven expertise in computer engineering and technological innovation.

Among its objectives was the promotion and dissemination of FabLab (fabrication laboratory) spaces in schools, training centers, and urban contexts, based on an innovative format called Context Formativo (CF). In this model, training represents the core process for enhancing digital skills and fostering new ideas and business opportunities.

SmartEducationLab is also a registered FabLab within the global FabLab Community, managed by the FabLab Foundation (www.fablabs.io). As such, it is connected to a worldwide network of makers, innovators, trainers, specialists, and technologists operating in more than 30 countries.

The co-founders of SmartEducationLab are Lucio Colizzi and Loredana Verardi, computer engineers and senior researchers at CETMA. For over 20 years, they have been engaged in Research and Technology Transfer projects, participating in numerous initiatives at regional, national, and European levels. Their experience spans innovation and development projects, international cooperation, digital technology training, and social innovation.
